1. Overview

FilmWIP is designed so that your private project media stays on your computer. We collect only what is needed to run accounts, public features, and site administration.

2. Information we store on the server

Depending on features you use, the server may store:

3. Local media & browser storage

Video, stills, and audio in your personal media library are read from folders you connect via the browser. Directory access is managed by your browser (including permission prompts). Handles and related notes may be stored in browser storage (such as IndexedDB) on your device — not as full media files on FilmWIP servers.

Clearing site data or revoking permissions may disconnect folders until you reconnect them. Signing in on another device loads account-backed planning data; media files and browser folder permissions do not automatically move with you. Optional cloud media storage may be offered in a future version. User-facing summary: FAQ — devices and what is saved.

4. Cookies & sessions

We use session mechanisms needed for login and security (session cookies after authentication). We do not sell personal data.

5. Public information

Content you submit to the public gallery, your FilmWIP handle, and any profile details you mark as public can be visible to other visitors. Optional real name is only shown if you allow it. Who you are a fan of is not shown on your public profile.

6. Admin access

Site administrators may access account and submission data as needed to operate the service, moderate content, and respond to messages or reports.

7. Third parties

The initial launch does not require paid third-party media hosting for user footage. Showcase films may use hosted files on filmwip.com or embedded YouTube videos; YouTube embeds are subject to Google/YouTube’s own policies when used.

8. Security

Passwords are stored using secure hashing (bcrypt via PHP’s password_hash). We take reasonable measures to protect account data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Children

FilmWIP is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). Do not create an account if you do not meet applicable age requirements.

10. Deleting your account

You can delete your account from Edit profile → Delete my account (confirmation required). That removes the account and the data we store for it on our servers. Media files on your computer are not deleted.

11. Changes

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.

12. Email

Email is optional at registration and on your profile. It is not required to use FilmWIP. We do not send email unless you opt in later. If we add password reset or extra content in the future, that contact would be opt-in only.

13. Contact

Signed-in users can reach site admins through Portal → Messages, even without an email on file. Privacy questions can also use that thread.

This is a practical summary for launch. Formal legal review is recommended before wide public release.
